Linus Torvalds announced last evening, October 6, that the fourth Release Candidate version of the upcoming Linux 3.12 kernel is available for download and testing.

Linux kernel 3.12 RC4 contains lots of filesystem fixes, including Btrfs, XFS, CIFS, FUSE and NILFS2, various architecture updates, including ARM, avr32, and s+core, as well as the usual driver updates and generic networking changes.

"Hmm. rc4 has more new commits than rc3, which doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy, but nothing major really stands out. More filesystem upfates than normal at this stage, perhaps, but I suspect that is just happenstance."

"We have cifs, xfs, btrfs, fuse and nilfs2 fixes here. But nothing scary, so go out and test.," said Linus Torvalds in the official release announcement.

Download Linux kernel 3.12 RC4 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
