Linus Torvalds announced last evening, September 23, that the second Release Candidate version of the upcoming Linux 3.12 kernel is available for download and testing.

Linux kernel 3.12 RC2 contains mainly driver updates and fixes, including GPU drivers, networking drivers, etc., various Arch updates, including ARM, MIPS, and Tile, as well as some file system improvements, especially for Btrfs.

"I really should have moved my release schedule back to Sunday - it got messed up by me releasing on Labor Day, and now it's been on Monday ever since. But hey, I didn't. So here it is, a full week later, the rc2 release."

"Things have been fairly quiet, probably because lots of people were traveling for LinuxCon and Linux Plumbers conference last week. So nothing very exciting stands out," said Linus Torvalds in the official release announcement. Download Linux kernel 3.12 RC2 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
