Gnutella Network has updated one of the most popular P2P (peer-to-peer) file sharing clients for Mac OS X, LimeWire. The latest version of the software, LimeWire X 5.1.2, brings two enhancements and a trio of fixed bugs. LimeWire is free to download and use for as long as you want.

According to the release notes, LimeWire X 5.1.2 fixes a bug with the single file sharing widget and removes the check box for the multi file sharing widget. Another addressed issue is a rendering bug with the share widget. Another error, where the Mojito tab wouldn't show you joined the Mojito DHT unless you had the Advanced Tools window open should also be removed now. Lastly, the developing team behind LimeWire X has included a few minor UI updates, such as right aligning the Length column header.

LimeWire is a free peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing client for Mac OS X. It uses the Java platform to locate files, as well as share files and it is one of the few P2P file sharing solutions of its kind for the Mac. LimeWire is compatible with all major platforms and running over the Gnutella network; it is touted as the fastest, easiest, most advanced file sharing program of its kind. The software adds iTunes integration on both Mac and Windows platforms, thanks to a recent update, as well as a browse-host feature, which works even through firewalls. LimeWire connects to the network using GWebCache, a distributed connection system.

LimeWire's open source code was developed (in part) by a devoted programmer community. The code is freely available to the public. LimeWire is available in multiple languages, in both free and paid versions. The Basic version is free, while LimeWire Pro can be acquired for $21.95.
