Crystal Dynamics has announced the release of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for iPhone and iPad. Priced at The special iPad-exclusive HD version takes advantage of the tablet’s large, high-resolution display.

The game was actually published on iOS platforms by SQUARE ENIX Ltd., the famous video game studio responsible for the Final Fantasy franchise, and developed for Crystal Dynamics by Ideaworks Game Studio, a UK based developer of digital titles.

The first ever co-op action/adventure game featuring Lara Croft, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light incorporates the hallmarks of the Tomb Raider franchise including exploration, discovery, platforming, and puzzle solving, Square Enix says.

“Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light allows players to experience Lara Croft from an isometric viewpoint, and combines new gameplay features such as character progression, fun fast-paced combat, and elements of cooperation and competition,” the developer outlines.

For those who are not too familiar with the relatively new game, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light features Lara and, for the first time in the Tomb Raider series, a partner named Totec.

The duo embark on a fast-paced action adventure loaded with enemies, traps, puzzles, and pretty much everything fans of the Tomb Raider series have come to expect.

"We're thrilled to bring the LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT App to iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users," said Darrell Gallagher, General Manager of Crystal Dynamics.

"The controls have been optimized to take advantage of these amazing devices and the graphics are absolutely stunning."

The game can be bought for $6.99 on the iPhone and iPod touch, and for $9.99 for iPad.
