Following the release of Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 at the end of July 2007, the Russian antivirus maker is moving forward with the evolution of its products. And as of the end of the past week, the first Beta versions of Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 8.0 are available for download. According to Kaspersky, the two now in Beta products have a new antivirus core engine designed to come to the table with boosted performance, enhanced scanning speed, optimized object detection and handling especially in scenarios involving multi-layered packing. But the first thing that end users are bound to notice is that the Beta builds of KIS 8.0 and KAV 8.0 feature an overhauled graphical user interface compared to version 7.0 of the security solutions.

"Product's graphical interface was again written 'from scratch'. With goals of code optimization and simplification, with dialogs some dialogs borrowed from 6.0/7.0. Main window changed considerably: to allow easier comprehension of longer lists the main window became resizable, to decrease the number of separate dialogs, which opened in separate windows before, the main structure became table like - in addition navigator in the left side is combined with upper tabs; by grouping several elements together main navigator is not tree like anymore. All-in-one settings window of v7.0 is now a much simpler (Options) window, whereby only the main product settings remained, with some new additional options," reads an excerpt of the new product components in v8.0, according to Kaspersky.

Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0 Beta and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 8.0 Beta improve on version 7.0 with an enhanced system watch set in place to monitor registering events, but also with HIPS (host intrusion prevention system) - proactive defense capabilities, as well as PDM (system of proactive defense and integrated Firewall. The two betas of Kaspersky security solutions version 8.0 deliver protection of files and memory, but also email and IM messages and secure the machine against web-based threats. In this regard, end users will be safeguarded against Phishing, network attacks (IDS) and auto-dialers. Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0 Beta and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 8.0 Beta offer Content Filtering designed to stop Spam, malicious Banners and inappropriate content via Parental Control.

"You will need to utilize special activation codes, which are located on the FTP server in the file called 'BetaCodes.txt'. The activation happends via an Activation Wizard, using that particular keycode. Ensure that the correct code is used, for the product type you are attempting to activate. NOTE: If for some reason there is a server problem, you can download the keyfile by going to the following website: http://activation.kaspersky.com. The codes for version 8 are these: KAV 8.0 - NNQGV-SASTS-7SY72-13TZ7 and KIS 8.0 - AXFRG-JW6EC-47MP1-HV4EE," Kaspersky added.
