Intel has outed a new driver developed for some of its Thunderbolt controllers, namely version 2.0.4.250 targeted at the L4000 and L5000 unit series, which is compatible with Microsoft’s Windows 7 (both bit variants) and 8.1 (64-bit) operating systems.

When it come to the changes, this fresh release drops support for both bit-variants of Windows 8 and for the 32-bit version of Windows 8.1, includes compatibility for the L5110 series controllers, and adds a new service component to the SW stack.

In addition to that, the software components will now automatically start when a Thunderbolt device is connected (as well as close if no units are attached) and, moreover, the balloon popup is now changed to a persistent message indicating the new hardware (when a controller is connected by a non-admin user).

Furthermore, error messages will now be displayed by the System Tray application when in “No Security” mode, and changing devices from “connect once” to “always connect” through the Approve Devices dialog will also be supported by the same System Tray application.

That being said, if you consider improving your controller, make sure this release is compatible with your system configuration, download Intel Thunderbolt Driver 2.0.4.250, apply it, and enjoy your newly updated Thunderbolt unit.
