HVRemote is a tool designed to streamline the configuring process associated with Hyper-V Remote Management. Put together by
John Howard, senior program manager, Hyper-V team, Windows Core Operating System Division, the tool is available as a free download, and is not associated with Microsoft. Howard emphasized that HVRemote is in no way a Microsoft-supported or endorsed product. However, while users will be on their own when it comes down to running the tool, the simplification it brings to setting up Hyper-V Remote Management makes it worth a try.
“It can configure Full installations and Server Core Installations of Windows Server 2008 with the Hyper-V role enabled, plus configure Microsoft Hyper-V Server. It runs across all locales (I've tested English and Japanese) and it doesn't matter if the server is domain or workgroup joined. It can configure Vista SP1 and Server 2008 configured with the Hyper-V Remote Management tools. Again, doesn't matter if the client is domain or workgroup joined,” Howard indicated.
Essentially, as Howard revealed, the complex process of manually configuring Hyper-V Remote Management to running just a couple of commands and wrapping up all tasks, which are performed automatically, is a matter of seconds. Howard delivered more than just the actual tool by the
documentation to go along with HVRemote. Only two commands are necessary to perform the complete configuration process for Hyper-V Remote management. The same set of operations, but performed manually, require a consistent amount of effort, which now can be directed to other tasks by using HVRemote.
“I've tried this out with a a lot of test 'guinea pigs' internally at Microsoft, and using the script literally dropped their remote configuration time down to seconds. Hopefully it will do the same for you,” he stated.
