With HPC Pack 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 (SP2) now available to customers, Microsoft is offering developers updated resources adapted to the release.
The Redmond company has refreshed its High Performance Computing offerings at the end of June 2011, and despite the information available on the Download Center a new software development kit is indeed available to devs.
In parallel with the second service pack for HPC Pack 2008 R2, the software giant is also offering HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK with Service Pack 2 (SP2).
“The Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK was designed to provide the tools and content necessary to write parallel applications for the Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 platform. The zip files are subject to the license terms for the SDK,” the company notes.
However, because of the fact that the details accompanying the SDK download are yet to be refreshed, there might be some confusion as to whether HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK SP2 is available or not.
This because, on the download page for HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK SP2
, Microsoft is still talking about HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK with Service Pack 1.
But make no mistake about it, KB2565784 is indeed HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK SP2, and not its predecessor.
In fact, the Redmond company confirms this on the real download page
for the old HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK SP1.
The software giant notes: “This SDK has been superseded by the 'HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK with Service Pack 2' version.
“Applications made with this SDK will continue to function on clusters running HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP2, but will not make use of any new SP2-specific features. Applications made with the 'SP2' SDK will function on pre-SP2 clusters, but cannot use any of the new SP2-specific features. This download is left up as a reference only. Please use the updated files.”HPC Pack 2008 R2 SDK with Service Pack 2 (SP2) is available for download here.HPC Pack 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 (SP2) RTM is available for download here.
