14 DAY TRIAL // Now that Google announced three new smartwatches at I/O, the company needs to update all apps that would run on these wearables.
The LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live and Motorola Moto 360 all have support for Google Maps, but the application didn’t seem to work at all immediately after Google introduced these smartwatches.
The reason seems to be an issue with the communication between the smartphone and these smartwatches, which Google acknowledged immediately and already offered a solution.
The new version of Google Maps that has just been released in Play store adds support for Android Wear and addresses the bugs that did not allow users to take advantage of navigation commands with any of the three smartwatches showcased.
Those who already own one of these watches will now be able to give navigation commands via their smartphones without any problems.
For those who don’t plan on grabbing any smartwatches at all, there are no changes that would affect their Maps for Android experience, but we would still recommend updating to the latest version of the application.
Speaking of which, you can now download Maps for Android 8.1.1 for free via Google Play Store. The new application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 2.3 and up.
