Working to finalize and release Chrome 8.0 no later than six weeks after the launch of Chrome 7.0, Google has issued a new Build of the next iteration of its open source browser to early adopters and developers. Google Chrome 8.0.552.18 is now available for download through the Dev Channel, just a few days after the latest update to version 8.0 of the browser was pushed to testers.

As was the case with previous versions of Chrome 8.0, the latest Build is designed for testers running Windows, Mac OS X or Linux. Google is building all flavors of Chrome 8.0 in parallel, offering new releases simultaneously for the three supported platforms.

At the same time, early adopters should not expect to find any new features in the new Chrome 8.0.552.18 Dev.

Google is using this Build much in the same manner as those which preceded it, namely to improve the quality of the browser.

“This release addresses a number of stability and polish issues found in the previous release,” noted Jason Kersey from the Google Chrome team.

The new Dev Channel release of Chrome 8.0 that have been succeeded one another at rapid pace are indicative of the fact that the Mountain View-search giant is approaching the next development milestone for version 8.0, namely the Beta.

While Google did not indicate an actual deadline for the release of Chrome 8.0 Beta, it is clear that the Build is just around the corner.

In addition to Chrome 8.0 Dev, early adopters can also get the first taste of Chrome 9.0 via the Chromium project.

Released last week, Chromium 9.0 is now up to version 9.0.565.0. Of course, Chrome 9.0 is still in the distance, but testers will most likely get a Dev Channel release by the end of the year, especially with version 9.0 due approximately six weeks after Chrome 8.0 hits general availability.
