Google Chrome 5.0.307.5 has just launched on the developer channel for Mac and Linux, Mark Larson, of the Google Chrome Team, reveals. “We've fixed some bugs present in 5.0.307.1 in an effort to stabilize 307 for a Beta channel update,” he writes. “If your favorite theme didn't look right after the last update: we fixed that in this update,” Larson adds.

According to the release notes, Chrome 5.0.307.5 is a bug-fix release, addressing as many as eight issues on Mac OS X, and just four on Linux. Here’s the breakdown:

(Mac/Linux) Fix themes being corrupted after upgrade (bad colors, extra wrench menu, etc); (Mac) Fix a crash when the page is closed or navigates while a popup menu is open; (Mac) Bookmark manager: restore focus when people press Esc; (Mac) Bookmark manager: Fix a crash on deleting a folder; (Mac) Fix a crash when plugins are scrolled or multiple plugins frames load; (Mac) Prevent tabs from closing when a popup window is open; (Linux) Fix a browser crash when the network connection is down; (Mac) Fix a crash when opening a menu while the browser starts; (Linux) Developer Tools: fix broken autocomplete; (Mac) Fix cookie management dialog being slow to load; (Linux) Fix App and Edit menus not appearing on pressing Alt+F or Alt+E.

In addition to developing the Chrome web browser, Google is also hard at work on an Internet-oriented operating system bearing the Chrome label. Appropriately dubbed Chrome OS, the operating system will feature key aspects like speed, simplicity, and security, according to Sundar Pichai, vice president of product management at Google. With the now-confirmed Apple iPad, many still believe it will be a direct rival of the enhanced iPhone operating system employed by the tablet device.

To get the latest version of the Google Chrome web browser, readers can follow the link below. Chrome works on Intel machines only and requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later. The Mac version is still beta software, therefore users are advised to exercise caution when using the browser, or at least not rely on it for important tasks.
