Google Chrome testers with Macs have a new Dev build to download and install today, featuring code corrections for what is referred to as “a large crash” that would occur in the browser in certain circumstances.

Daniel Xie of the Google Chrome team makes the official introductions, reporting that “The Dev Channel has been updated to 36.0.1941.3 for Mac. This release fixes a large crash,” he notes, adding that the full changelog discloses more information about this issue, as well as previous code tweaks.

For example, the SVN revision log reveals that Chrome 36.0.1941.3 adds SSL support to the GN build, with the developers noting that “This moves files from the secondary tree to the main one, and renames the ‘meta’ one to //crypto:ssl. It also adds the crypto unit tests.”

Google offers this new build for Mac testers only, indicating that Windows and Linux installments do not suffer from the reported “large crash.”

The newest Stable build of Chrome is version 34. Customers who rely on the Chrome browser for their day-to-day work should use that particular version. The Beta and Dev builds are for testing purposes only. If that’s you, download Google Chrome 36.0.1941.3 Dev for Mac and resume your testing.
