From the developer channel

This week, Google has kicked up a notch version 3.0 of its open-source browser not once but twice. Google Chrome Build 3.0.195.4 is the latest version available for download to testers. The bits were updated on July 29th, on the developer channel. “This update contains some additional fixes to themes support, in addition to some crash fixes,” revealed Anthony Laforge, Google Chrome program manager. Of course that the key word here is “additional.” The extra fixes introduced by the Mountain View search giant are designed to resolve issues that were missed with the previous dev channel release, version 3.0.195.3, and which Google rushed to resolve.

In this regard, users need to know that Google Chrome 3.0.195.4 is only available for the Windows operating system. In contrast, Build 3.0.195.3 is available for all supported platforms, meaning not just Windows, but also Linux and Mac OS X. “This release contains crash and stability fixes as well as patches for: our brand new tab page, themes, the video tag,” Laforge noted. 3.0.195.3 was delivered just one day ahead of 3.0.195.4.

Google has imposed a rapid development milestone delivery pace, with releases succeeding one another every week. The search giant has also managed to break its own cycle of updates when necessary, as is the case of 3.0.195.3 and 3.0.195.4.

And speaking of fast-paced releases, just the past week, Google upgraded the Beta channel of Chrome to 3.0.193.2. Users of the Beta Build 3.0.193.2 will notice that Chrome comes to the table with an updated Omnibox, sporting a redesigned look and feel. In addition, users will now be able to enjoy content across websites leveraging the video tag. Google has traditionally built the Beta and dev channel flavors of Chrome in parallel, although “traditionally” is perhaps not the best choice of words for a company in fact lacking tradition in building browsers, or client-side software for that matter.
