Google has made available for download the latest release of its own breed of open source browser through the development channel. Making headway with the development of the next iteration of Google Chrome, the Mountain View-based search giant is rapidly advancing through development milestone. Build 2.0.164.0 of Google Chrome was dropped just a week after the availability of 2.0.162.0, and only approximately two weeks since the 2.0.160.0 release.

“You might notice 8 Indic languages are now available for the Google Chrome user interface: Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Tamil, and Telugu. (Note: Oriya does not work in Windows XP.) This is just the initial integration of support for these languages. The translations are not complete and haven't been finalized. Please don't file bugs for these languages, yet,” revealed Mark Larson, Google Chrome program manager.

According to the Mountain View company, Google Chrome 2.0.164.0 is a development milestone focused on resolving a range of problems identified for the browser. In this regard, Google has fixed the issues associated with Facebook's sidebar layout. At the same time, the new release of Google Chrome will no longer crash when attempting to display specific Hebrew and Arabic websites. 2.0.164.0 also marks another step forward when it comes down to the integration with Windows Vista, by resolving issues related to configuring Chrome as the default browser for the operating system.

There are of course some problems that have survived even after Google Chrome 2.0.164.0 and those will be taken care of in future releases: “after scrolling, input method editor (IME) windows appear far from the current text area. The Web Inspector (right click > Inspect Element) does not work. Issues with commands on pop-up windows: the context menu has most commands disabled, reload and view source do not work. Saving web pages does not work. Save as.. (Ctrl+S) appears to save to your Downloads folder, but it creates a file in the Application\2.0.164.0 directory. Some pop-ups and tabs load pages, but the title remains 'Untitled' and the address bar shows 'about:blank' as the URL,” Larson added.
