Download Google Chrome 15.0.874.0 Dev

Google started offering a new release of Chrome 15 to early adopters for testing via the Dev channel.

According to the Mountain View-based company, testers running Windows now have Google Chrome 15.0.874.0 Dev available for download and can take the new Build out for a spin.

As it’s somewhat a tradition, the latest release of Chrome 15 Dev for Windows is accompanied by Mac OS X and Linux Builds.

But this time around the actual Build numbers are not synchronized, with Chrome 15.0.874.1 being provided to Linux testers while Chrome 15.0.874.3 is available to those running Mac OS X.

Google Chrome 15.0.874.0 Dev sports a range of bug fixes and additional tweaks, but there are no new features to speak of, so testers needn’t look for any.

However, they’ll be able to enjoy a boost in reliability, after Google introduced a number of stability fixes to bugs in the previous Dev release.

Chrome 15 Dev is also less likely to crash during the process of synchronizing encrypted data, and also when users opt to delete cookies from chrome://settings/clearBrowserData. This is because the Mountain View-based search giant has dealt with issues which impacted the open source browser’s reliability.

Google also tweaked the latest Chrome 15 release in order to have extensions leveraging the Pepper Plugin API (PPAPI) also take advantage of hardware acceleration by default. The company did so by replacing the --enable-accelerated-plugins flag with the --disable-accelerated-plugins.

Chrome 15.0.874.0 Dev also sports enhanced anti-phishing protection for users. Essentially, the search giant has turned on client-side phishing detection for non-UMA users.

What this means that for both Uniform Memory Access and NUMA users Chrome will drastically limit the amount of information it shares when its heuristics technology detects a potential phishing attack.

3.6.0.0 is now the latest version of the V8 JavaScript engine included into Chrome 15.0.874.0 Dev.
