Google has started offering testers the second Chrome 15 release through the Dev Channel, the second Build in a long line which will end with v15 of the open source browser graduating to Beta a few months from now.

Google Chrome 15.0.854.0 Dev is available for download for early adopters running Windows as of August 17, 2011, after it was released for testers with Mac OS X and Linux a day earlier.

The Mountain View-based search giant generally manages to synchronize Chrome releases across all the platforms supported by the browser, but there are exceptions, and Build 15.0.854.0 Dev is an illustrative example in this regard.

Google did not specify what caused it to delay the availability of Chrome 15.0.854.0 Dev, but the wait was not sufficiently long to get testers rattled.

Chrome 15.0.854.0 Dev comes to the table with an updated JavaScript engine, with Google constantly working to push the browser’s underlying JS technologies to new levels. V8 3.5.5.0 is packed inside the latest Dev Channel update of Chrome 15, the search giant noted.

Testers that have already taken Chrome 15 Dev out for a spin, will be able to notice reliability improvements while running the latest Build. Chrome 15.0.854.0 Dev introduced fixes for a number of bugs impacting stability.

In addition, Google has fixed a bug which allowed users to uninstall and disable extensions deployed manually even though they were managed with the ExtensionInstallForceList policy.

Earlier this week, ahead of the latest Dev Channel update, Google also refreshed the Beta Channel.

Chrome 14.0.835.94 has been available for download for the past few days, this time a release offered for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux testers.

As usual, end users need to run Chrome 13 Stable, with Chrome 14 Beta and Chrome 15 Dev being offered only for testing.
