Moving at what is now its normal pace, Google has released yet another Stable release of Chrome.

The open source browser is now at version 11.0, with the Mountain View-based search giant already hard at work on the development of its successors.

Users of Google’s browser need to upgrade to Chrome 11.0.696.57 as soon as possible, not necessarily for the new features, but mostly because of the patch collection introduced by this latest version.

Available through the Stable Channel for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome Frame, Chrome 11.0.696.57 is designed to fix a plethora of security vulnerabilities, and this should make its deployment a priority.

Of course, Google serves Chrome 11.0.696.57 upgrades automatically to all users of previous Stable releases, and customers will rarely get the chance to upgrade manually.

In addition to patches, Chrome 11.0 Stable also introduces support for speech input through HTML.

Google highlights one usage scenario in which customers can produce translations by speaking to the browser, having the words transformed into text, sent to the translation servers, and the result returned to them.

As far as I’m concerned I see another very important use for speech input through HTML. People with disabilities that prevent them from using traditional input peripherals such as a keyboard or mouse will be able to interact with Cloud application through voice commands, provided that devs will embrace the functionality in Chrome.

With Chrome 11.0.696.57 Stable now available for download, early adopters can expect the first Chrome 12.0 release to graduate from the Dev to the Beta channel rather soon.

Of course, this also means that a new Chrome Build will hit the Dev Channel, approximately at the same time, if not even concomitantly.

And in the next months, customers will get to download not only multiple Chrome releases, but also a variety of Firefox Builds as well as upcoming Internet Explorer 10 Platform Previews.
