Not one, but two updates are available for those eager to test out Chrome in its various forms, whether it be a developer build, or a stable one - Google Chrome 10.0.648.45 Dev and Google Chrome 9.0.597.94 Stable have been released for all platforms, including Mac OS X.

Chrome Dev 10.0.648.45 contains a number of updates listed by Google’s Jason Kersey on the Chrome Releases blog.

These include an updated V8 engine to version 3.0.12.12, a new version of the Flash plugin (10.2, which drops PowerPC support by the way, though Chrome only works on Intel hardware), many crash fixes, background applications UI cleanup, and additional settings UI cleanup according to Kersey.

A few fixes are also mentioned in this Dev Chrome release:

- Fix for differential installers not applying cleanly - Horizontal scroll should not move the options behind Settings - No sound in extension with Chromium

On the Stable front, Chrome 9.0.597.94 contains the updated version of Adobe’s Flash Player (10.2), along with a number of security fixes, Anthony Laforge reports for Google.

The security issues addressed in this stable Chrome release include

- High Stale pointer in animation event handling - High Use-after-free in SVG font faces - High Stale pointer with anonymous block handling - Medium Out-of-bounds read in plug-in handling - Medium Possible failure to terminate process on out-of-memory condition

As usual, Google credits their discoverers, listing the cash earned by each in part for their efforts to make Chrome solid as a rock for Mac, Windows, and Linux users alike.

Google Chrome requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and an Intel-based Mac.

A note about Google Chrome release channels and updates Chrome boasts a release system with three distinct channels: Stable, Beta, and Developer preview, called the "Dev" channel.

The Stable channel is updated with features and fixes only after they are thoroughly tested in the Beta channel, while the Beta channel is being updated with stable and complete features from the Dev channel, where ideas get tested.
