With the release of Chrome 10.0.648.11, Google is pushing its open source browser another step forward, as it prepares to release Chrome 9.0. At this point in time version 8.0 is the last Stable release of Chrome, but this is bound to change as v.9.0 graduates from the Beta Channel.

Google has got testers used to multiple releases, through the Dev Channel in addition to the Beta and Stable builds, as well as to pushing the Canary flavor of Chrome.

Google Chrome 10.0.648.11 is the latest Build to ship to early adopters through the Dev Channel. According to the Mountain View-based search giant Chrome 10.0.648.11 can be downloaded and tested by early adopters running Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

As is the case with all Chrome Builds that do not ship through the Stable Channel, Chrome 10.0.648.11 is designed for testing purposes, and end users should not use it into production.

The minor increase in terms of versioning indicates that Chrome 10.0.648.11 is also a minor update at best.

The most consistent modifications that testers will come across involve tweaks to the new settings page. According to Google, the focus was placed on fine tuning the feature, as version 10.0 is right on track to moving to Beta in the immediate future.

In addition to the new settings page refinements, the Mountain View-based search giant worked on improving the overall reliability of the browser.

A number of issues that were causing stability issues have been resolved in this release, Google underlined.

Google is slowly making its way toward delivering Chrome 9.0 through the Stable Channel. At that point Chrome 10.0 is bound to move to Beta, and testers will get their first taste of Chrome 11.

The Mountain View-based company remains committed to a rapid release cycle of major Chrome versions, essentially a new Stable Build around every six weeks.
