Google continues to improve its mobile applications following Android L’s announcement last month. The latest app to receive a major update that brings lots of enhancements is Gmail for Android devices.

The email client received some visual improvements and tweaks, so users will notice the application now features profile pictures in the account switcher. Keep in mind that this feature is only available on devices powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and up.

But the most important new feature included in the latest update is the possibility to save attachments directly to Google Drive so users can access them anywhere, while saving space and bandwidth on their Android devices.

Additionally, developers added full right-to-left (RTL) support for Arabic, Hebrew and Persian languages. With the latest version of Gmail for Android, users will be able to swipe from the edge to access the left side menu, in any view.

Users will also notice that Settings, Help and Feedback are now accessible from this left side menu that can be pulled on the display in any view.

Last but not least, the application will now offer users an explanation on why a message ended up in spam. This can be seen at the top of the message.

You can now download Gmail for Android 4.9 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 2.3 and up.
