Google's Gmail client for Android devices has just been updated with lots of new features, bug fixes and performance improvements.

The latest version of Gmail comes with auto-fit messages to screen and message zooming (pinch-to-zoom) and allows users to swipe messages to archive or delete.

In addition, users will be able to attach photos and videos from within the application. There are now larger photo previews and gallery view for photo attachments. Some bug fixes and performance enhancements have been included as well.

All the changes above are only available for devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform and up. For those who use devices powered by Android 2.2 and up, the latest version of Gmail brings new Labels API for third-party app developers.

Gmail 4.2.1 is now available as a free download via Google Play store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.2 and up. Check it out here.
