This is the only app that could provide notifications for Gmail accounts

Google won’t release an official Gmail application for Windows 8, so third-party developers could only be delighted with this decision.

The so-called Gmail Alerts is currently the only Windows 8 app supposed to notify users whenever a new email lands in their inboxes. The app relies on a rather basic interface, with a Start Screen-inspired layout to show each email.

The live tile is being used to showcase the latest inbox messages, while integration into Windows 8’s notification system makes sure the user is alerted whenever a new email arrives.

Configuration is piece of cake, as the app only asks for your Gmail username and password, with a single option available to set up the refresh interval.
