Download GarageBand Update 5.1

GarageBand '09, the latest version of Apple’s software application used to create music and podcasts on Mac OS X, has received an update addressing general compatibility issues, improving overall stability, but also delivering fixes for several minor issues. The update is free to download and install for all users of GarageBand '09 (iLife '09). It is recommended for users to apply the update as soon as they get the chance.

As usual, Apple discloses the contents of the GarageBand 5.1 update via its Support section, describing the release as follows:

About GarageBand 5.1

This update addresses general compatibility issues, improves overall stability, and fixes a number of other minor issues. The issues addressed include:
- GarageBand track effects and Audio Units can now be added to a guitar track;
- Improved support for Apogee audio interfaces;
- Faster switching to full screen in Magic GarageBand;
- Improved access to audio monitoring settings.

This update is recommended for all users of GarageBand '09.

Interestingly, GarageBand 5.1 also contains a security side. Apple has revealed in a separate Support piece that GarageBand users’ web activity with GarageBand open was prone to being tracked by third parties and advertisers. Just like Apple, we will be discussing the security side of GarageBand 5.1 in an article to come.

Posted on August 03, 2009, the GarageBand 5.1 update is 139.29MB in size. Requirements include Mac OS X 10.5.6 (Leopard) or later. GarageBand supports languages including Deutsch, English, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Português Brasileiro, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

To update GarageBand '09 to the latest version, Mac owners can use the Software Update mechanism typical to Mac OS X (Apple Menu -> Software Update) and choose GarageBand 5.1 from the list of available updates, followed by a click on the Install button. Alternately, users can download the GarageBand 5.1 standalone installer (available for free download below) and apply the update manually.
