Microsoft continues to add to its excellent collection of content designed to streamline the personalization of Windows 7 desktops. The Redmond company has added another free theme to its Windows Personalization Gallery, a customization hub set up with Windows 7 customers in mind. Users running the latest iteration of the Windows client can now download free of charge a new
Japan-based theme with imagery already associated with Bing.
Microsoft uses a variety of wallpapers as backgrounds for the home page of its search/decision engine. In time, the software giant has selected collections of imagery and packaged them into themepack files, offering them as themes for Windows 7. Bing's Best: Japan is the latest addition to the list of Bing themes for Windows 7, and in fact, the first localized package products by the Redmond company.
Bing's Best: Japan brings to the table a super package of imagery, depicting a variety of Nippon landmarks. Users will undoubtedly be able to recognize Mount Fiji, Japan’s highest mountain (3,776m/12,388ft), but also the Sakurajima volcano, which might still bring back memories to some of the 1974 eruption.
As far as I’m concerned, hardcore Nippon symbols such as cherry blossoms and Ginkgo trees could not have missed from this theme, and indeed they don’t, adding subtle nuances to this excellent set of background images. There are additional images from Japan, including of Tokyo, the country’s capital, the Port of Yokohama, the Komyo-ji Temple, the Osaka and Himeji castles. On top of this, the wallpapers depicting Omizutori, the Water-Drawing Buddhist festival, and the ceremony at Hiroshima Pea are additional bits of Japan’s soul that fit perfectly into this theme.
Windows 7 users can grab the theme and install it on their machines, while customers running other operating systems can still download the themepack and extract the background images with an archiver program.
