So you have a Nintendo Wii, that's just fine. But I guess you want a decent browser. If I am right, maybe you will be glad to know that you will soon be able to download the Nintendo Wii Opera browser for free.

Gamesoul reports that Nintendo's Swedish website announced that the Opera Web Browser for the Wii will be available for download on the Wii Shop Channel. Because the Wii Shop Channel is free of charge until June 2007, this means that the Wii Opera will also be free. Looks like you can download the browser if you want to starting with the 23rd of December.

Things are not yet clear regarding this browser and its availability. Gamesould is not sure if this is valid for the entire Europe as they suggest that it may be available only in Sweden. I certainly hope not!

The software will be saved to the Wii's internal flash memory and the application will be able to launch within a few seconds. You will be able to connect to the Internet wirelessly or through Ethernet cable.

The Wii Opera will have the same support as Opera 9 for Windows, MAC and Linux, including JavaScript. It may also use Ajax or Adobe Flash. Apparently, the Wii browser will have support for Widgets, standalone web-based applications using Opera as an application platform.

Probably, many of you Wii owners realized that the Wii Channel is nothing more than a simplified web browser. So until Opera is available for download, you can use it as a browser but only if you know how!
