Microsoft initially mare available for download the first free bundle of Windows Vista Enterprise and Office 2007 Professional towards the end of June 2007. The past week, the Redmond company indicated that it remains committed to delivering customers with the possibility to test drive its two main cash cows. On July 18, an updated version of the Microsoft Office 2007 Professional VHD went live and is now available for download. Microsoft is already offering a virtual image of Windows Vista Enterprise as a standalone product, but the company has strongly emphasized the "better together" perspective over its latest operating system and productivity suite.

Microsoft Office 2007 Professional VHD is essentially a pre-configured and optimized virtual hard disk designed to integrate seamlessly with both Virtual PC 2007 and Virtual Server 2005 R2. Weighed in from 57.4 MB - to 2547.7 MB, the download will enable users to "test Drive two new Microsoft platforms, Windows Vista Enterprise and Office 2007 Professional, and experience how they work better together" on Vista, Windows Server 2003 and XP.

In terms of content not much has changed in comparison with the original virtual image. The "VHD contains both the 30 day edition of Windows Vista Enterprise Edition and an evaluation of Office 2007 Professional which includes Publisher, Excel, Outlook, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and Word. However, the updated VHD has been divided in no less than 27 archives, at approximately 95.8 MB each, in order to streamline the download process. In terms of systems resources, users that are already using Vista should have no problems, but still they will have to keep in mind that the Vista Enterprise and Office 2007 Professional virtual hard disk image will eat up some 10 GB of HDD space as well as 768MB of RAM.
