Blizzard Entertainment is advertising what it calls a “free demo” of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty on the home page of battle.net. To download the demo, StarCraft fans must enter their first and last name, a valid email address, and their date of birth. First off, though, Mac users should check with the list of system requirements to see if they meet the necessary hardware specs to play the game.

Starcraft II continues the epic saga of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg - three distinct and powerful races which clash once again in the fast-paced real-time strategy sequel to the original StarCraft game.

“Legions of veteran, upgraded, and brand-new unit types will do battle across the galaxy, as each faction struggles for survival,” goes Blizzard’s description.

StarCraft II introduces a unique single-player campaign that picks up where StarCraft: Brood War left off.

The title presents a cast of new heroes and familiar faces in a sci-fi story filled with adventure and intrigue, according to Blizzard Entertainment.

Online play is being offered through Battle.net, the studio’s famous gaming service.

Battle.net now features several enhancements that have been specifically designed to make StarCraft II a more competitive RTS game for Mac and Windows PC gamers alike.

The key features of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty advertised by Blizzard are:

To be able to play Blizzard’s heavyweight RTS game, Mac user need the minimum Mac OS X 105.8 (Leopard) or Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard) operating systems, an Intel processor, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT or ATI Radeon X1600 or better graphics, 12 GB available HD space, 2 GB RAM, a DVD-ROM drive, a broadband Internet connection, and 1024X720 display resolution.

To ensure the StarCraft II experience is flawless, Mac recommended specifications include an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB of RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT or ATI Radeon HD 4670 (or better) graphics.
