Probably the most famous short animation in the world

Everyone loves Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd and Microsoft seems to know that, since they've begun offering dozens of Looney Tunes animated episodes on the Xbox Live Marketplace. While most of them require a fee in order to be downloaded, the "What's Opera, Doc?" episode is available for free. Keep in mind that these animated shorts are available in high definition mode for the first time, reminding us of the glorious days of Looney Tunes episodes.

So, speed up and go download that Opera episode, as it's a limited offer... Don't blame us if you weren't quick enough! If you're a cartoon freak and fanatic, you might know that "What's Opera, Doc?" is a 1957 media product, that is included in the Merrie Melodies series. The episode features the world famous Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, introduced as antagonists in a setting that parodies Wagner's famous "The Ring of the Nibelung".

You're probably wondering why Microsoft chose this episode and offered it for free... Well, we should go back to 1994 and find out the answer, since in that year, "What's Opera, Doc?" became the number 1 cartoon out of 50 famous contenders, being voted by 1000 members of the animation biz. Who dares to say that the Xbox doesn't educate people? We get a taste out of the world's most famous animated cartoon and out of music history...as we listen to Wagner's works...

Thumbs up for this initiative and we're waiting for a similar move from Sony and Nintendo, especially from the latter company, who seems more keen on childish media, than the Japanese hardware giant. How about some Tom & Jerry original episodes or some anime action to bring us up to speed? While we're dreaming about such wonderful content, let's take some time to realize that more than 50 years have passed and we're still enjoying the original Bugs Bunny cartoons... How's that for a long-lasting media cult?
