After announcing three new offerings for Mac users, including an $899.99 AutoCAD LT available immediately from the Mac App Store, 3D design expert Autodesk has now released the freely downloadable AutoCAD WS for viewing and editing DWG and DXF files on a Mac.
“View, edit and share your design files with AutoCAD WS for Mac app,” reads the official description from Autodesk, a world leader in 3D design software for manufacturing, building, media, and entertainment industries.
Touted as a simple and free CAD application that enables you to view and edit DWG and DXF files, AutoCAD WS is basically the desktop version of the popular AutoCAD WS mobile app.
The Mac app has been designed to offer a basic, intuitive set of viewing, editing, and markup tools, allowing users to open their files on their Mac and upload them to their online account.
Users can sync the content with their AutoCAD WS mobile app so it's available everywhere.
“Plot your DWG files as a PDF or DWFx with full control over plot styles, paper sizes, layouts and more,” adds Autodesk.
Finally, users can save drawings locally so that work can continue even when offline.
Commenting on Autodesk’s multi-release this week, Ron Okamoto, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said: “Autodesk has done an incredible job bringing their apps to the Mac. AutoCAD for Mac has been a huge hit with Mac users and we’re thrilled to see Autodesk offer AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD WS as Mac App Store exclusives.”
AutoCAD LT for Mac is aimed at professional designers, architects and engineers who prefer to work in a native Mac environment.
Those who need AutoCAD to create, edit or review designs, technical drawings and documentation are encouraged to visit the Mac App Store and learn more about Autodesk’s offerings.
The software requires Intel hardware, copious amounts of RAM and storage and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later. Autodesk has confirmed that its latest Mac offerings are perfectly compatible with OS X 10.7 - Lion.
