Foursquare Labs, Inc. has released an updated version of its iOS client to include a redesigned Explore tab, and new search capabilities. The iPhone 5 and iOS 6 are now fully supported as well.

The company says Foursquare is now “the perfect map, made just for you.” Whether or not that’s an Apple maps pun, avid users of the application will undoubtedly appreciate the updated Explore tab with a simpler design, as well as the brand new search categories that make finding places even easier.

“The biggest change you’ll notice with today’s iPhone update […] is that we updated Explore with a simpler design and a bunch of new search options,” says the developer.

“It improves one of the best things about Foursquare – it’s a personalized map made just for you.”

You can now see friends and top suggestions nearby, search for a specific place – “Joe's Diner” is the example provided by Foursquare Labs – or “search for whatever you're craving, like ‘Mexican’ or ‘nachos.’”

The social networking company explains in a blog post, “…because we also know what you and your friends like, what’s popular in the neighborhood, and have data from tens of millions of tips and over 2.5 billion check-ins, we can also give you tailored suggestions instead of one size-fits-all results.”

Users will be able to see only the places they've saved to their lists, as well as the places they have or haven't been to. There’s also an option to display only places your friends have been to.

“As always, get directions, menus, hours, photos, tips and more,” says Foursquare Labs, adding “It's also way faster, with a bunch of design tweaks and under-the-hood performance improvements (including on your new iPhone 5 and iOS 6).”
