14 DAY TRIAL // Customers looking to take Microsoft’s next generation identity management solution for a test drive have the first Release Candidate development milestone available for download. However, IT professionals, that don’t want to go through all the hassles associated with deploying Forefront Identity Manager 2010 on a physical machine, can now opt to grab a virtualized offering from the Redmond company. The Forefront Identity Manager 2010 RC1 Demo Virtual Hard Disk Image is now live on the Microsoft Download Center, delivered free of charge by the software giant.
“The new FIM 2010 RC1 VHD is available for download. The VHD consists of a full environment ready for evaluation. The scenarios that are already enabled are Group Management, User provisioning and Password Reset,” revealed a member of the Microsoft Identity Management team.
The Redmond company launched RC1 of Forefront Identity Manager 2010 (FIM), formerly developed under the codename Identity Lifecycle Manager "2," in the first half of October 2009. The VHD package brings to the table a Hyper-V-based demo of the identity management solution, having reached the first Release Candidate milestone.
“This download consists of a Hyper-V-based virtual hard disk image that contains a pre-installed demonstration version of Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010 RC1. The image includes all components needed to experience the full integration of FIM 2010 with Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Outlook 2007. The image uses evaluation software and will only continue to work as expected until March, 2010,” Microsoft revealed.
In addition to the VHD version of Forefront Identity Manager 2010 Release Candidate, customers can get their hands on the actual RC1 bits, also offered free of charge by Microsoft. It was with the launch of the RC1 Build that Microsoft rebranded ILM 2 as Forefront Identity Manager 2010. IT pros, already familiar with the product, will notice a revamped user interface, enhancements related to performance and scalability as well as the introduction of new features.
