Microsoft is now inviting customers running Forefront Endpoint Protection to test drive the next iteration of the security solution.

The Beta development milestone of Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 is available to early adopters for download free of charge, as is generally the case with pre-release software from the Redmond company.

Of course, Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 is the successor of Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 which the software giant released to manufacturing in December 2010.

Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 comes with the promise that it delivers enhanced endpoint protection while cutting costs and simplifying administrative work for IT professionals.

“Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 continues to deliver on the promise of Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010, simplifying and improving endpoint protection while also greatly reducing infrastructure costs,” Microsoft stated.

“It builds on System Center Configuration Manager, allowing customers to implement endpoint protection as part of a unified infrastructure for securing and managing physical, virtual, and mobile client environments.

“This shared infrastructure lowers ownership costs while providing improved visibility and control over endpoint management and security.”

Current Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 customers that will jump at the chance to take Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 Beta out for a spin are bound to notice a few improvements.

According to Microsoft, enhancing the process associated with the delivery and integration of security updates is one of the new key features included in the next version of FEP.

In addition to increasing the efficiency of security refreshes, the software giant also worked to introduce support for System Center Configuration Manager 2012- Role-based administration.

Customers can download Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 Beta immediately, deploy it in a test environment and get an idea about what’s coming to them.

Of course, as with any Beta, this release of Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 also offers an excellent opportunity to provide feedback to Microsoft and influence the development of the solution.
