The first Opera release in 2011 is now available for download, released at the end of the past week.

Build 1160 is a taste of the first update for the most recent version of the Opera browser, which was launched in mid-December 2010, with Opera Software touting a “first to 11” push.

What the Norway-based browser maker is offering is a development snapshot of the first update to Opera 11.

The release is intended for an early adopter audience, and designed for deployment in testing environments. Users running Opera 11 into production better stick with Opera 11 final offered on December 16th.

“This is a snapshot of Opera 11.01, a possible future minor/bugfix release for Opera 11,” revealed a member of the Desktop Opera team.

“In addition to mouse gesture fixes and various other things, we have also looked at the top crashers in Opera 11, and several of them have been fixed in this snapshot.”

Download statistics indicate that Opera 11 has been a success, with the browser hitting the ground running.

According to Opera Software, version 11 was downloaded over 6.7 million times just in the first day after launch. No additional figures were provided by the browser maker since mid-December 2010.

And it seems that Opera Software is now focusing on resolving any issues that survived the testing process of Opera 11 and ended up in the finalized variant.

“Although this is a minor/bugfix release, you may notice that there are more Core fixes in this build than you might expect.

“This is due to our development model at Opera, where we often receive batches of fixes from the Core team that have been tested, and are ready for public consumption.

“Since the batch of fixes contains important bug fixes, we receive other fixes as well as a "bonus". We also get to test these fixes in public,” the Opera Desktop team member added.
