14 DAY TRIAL // Mozilla has made available for download two new releases of its open source browser, while users are still waiting for the eight Beta development milestone of Firefox 4.0.
Customers running older versions of Firefox, can now download the two refreshes and update.
Mozilla managed to live up to the promise of delivering Firefox 3.6.13 and Firefox 3.5.16 today, December 9th, 2010, although, at the time of this article only Firefox 3.6.13 downloads had actually went live.
Still, Firefox 3.6.13 and Firefox 3.5.16 are literally joined at the hip, and users will not have to wait all that long to download and install version 3.5.16 as well.
But just for the time being, Firefox 3.6.13 is the only one of the two updates that is actually available for download.
Fact is that Mozilla is yet to announce officially the release of either Firefox 3.6.13 or Firefox 3.5.16, but this is also bound to happen soon.
Both Firefox 3.6.13 and Firefox 3.5.16 releases are a part of the normal evolution process of Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 3.5.
And both offer nothing more than security and stability updates for the predecessors of Firefox 4.0.
As usual, customers are invited to update as soon as possible, in order to make sure that any security vulnerabilities in their version of the open source browser are patched.
Mozilla won’t offer details of the security holes impacting Firefox until the updates are available to the public.
Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 was also planned for release this week, but it now looks like this won’t be the case, as Mozilla still has around a dozen blockers to deal with.
In this regard, it’s clear that the Firefox 4.0 project has been pushed even further into 2011, and that end users will need to stick with Firefox 3.6.x or Firefox 3.5.x a tad longer.
