With Firefox 4.0 stuck at the Beta 6 stage, Mozilla is now offering users two new releases of its open source browser. Both Firefox 3.6.11 and Firefox 3.5.14 are now available for download, and as it is the case with all Firefox 3.6.x and Firefox 3.5.x Builds, the latest versions are in fact stability and security updates.

Customers running Mozilla’s open source browser should make sure and make the jump to the latest versions available as soon as possible, especially to ensure that they are protected against potential exploits targeting the security vulnerabilities patched with the latest releases.

Beyond introducing a number of bug fixes designed to increase the Firefox’s reliability, and resolving a few security holes, there are no new features in either Firefox 3.6.11 or Firefox 3.5.14.

“As always, we recommend that users keep up to date with the latest stability and support versions of Firefox, and encourage all our users to upgrade to the very latest version, Firefox 3.6.11,” revealed Christian Legnitto, Firefox release manager at Mozilla.

“We strongly recommend that all Firefox users upgrade to these latest releases. If you already have Firefox, you will receive an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours. This updates can also be applied manually by selecting “Check for Updates…” from the Help menu,” he added.

“All Firefox 3 and 3.5 users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 3.6 by downloading it (…) or by selecting “Check for Updates…” from the Help menu and clicking on “Get the New Version”, then checking for updates again once Firefox 3.6 is installed.”

Mozilla has patched the same security vulnerabilities in Firefox 3.6.11 and Firefox 3.5.14. A total of nine security holes were plugged with the release of the latest updates.

No less than five of the vulnerabilities resolved with Firefox 3.6.11 and Firefox 3.5.14 are rated Critical, indicative of the high level of risk they pose to customers. Users should update as soon as possible.

In parallel with working on Firefox 3.6.11 and Firefox 3.5.14, Mozilla also continued the development efforts around Firefox 4.0.

The last Beta Build for Firefox 4.0 was delivered over a month ago, despite the promise from the browser maker to offer new releases at an accelerated pace per the Google Chrome model.

Mozilla is hammering at two more Beta releases for the next major iteration of the open source browser, with Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 expected to drop by the end of October 2010.
