Mozilla has finished wrapping up the third and last Release Candidate build of Firefox 3.5. The first candidates of RC3 were already being offered to testers and now the fully-fledged Release Candidate 3 for the iteration of the open source browser formerly codenamed Shiretoko is available for download.

Mozilla referred to Firefox 3.5 RC3 as an updated variant of the initial RC development milestone. The release is up for grabs as a standalone download but will also be pushed as an update to testers running earlier versions of Firefox 3.5.

“A new version of the Firefox 3.5 Release Candidate is now available for download, containing fixes based on the feedback obtained from the previous release candidate. This updated milestone is focused on providing a preview of the functionality provided by the new features and changes that will be included in Firefox 3.5,” revealed Mike Beltzner, Director of Firefox at Mozilla.

The past week, Mozilla started serving the first Release Candidate of Firefox 3.5, a browser labeled Firefox 3.1 until well into the first half of 2009. RC1 was split into two parts, the first served as an update to Beta 4 users of Firefox 3.5, and the second, labeled RC2, was offered to the public. Firefox 3.5 RC2 followed RC1 at a few days’ distance. At that time, Mozilla indicated that it was aiming to provide the final build of Firefox 3.5 by the end of June 2009.

“The Firefox 3.5 Release Candidate is a public preview release intended for developer testing and community feedback. It includes many new features as well as improvements to performance, web compatibility, and speed,” Beltzner added. “Testers can download Firefox 3.5 Release Candidate builds for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux in over 70 different languages. Users already running a Firefox 3.5 Beta or Release Candidate can obtain an update to this latest Release Candidate version by selecting ‘Check for Updates…’ from the ‘Help’ menu.”
