While on its way to Firefox 3.1 or 3.5, Mozilla made available for download Firefox 3.0.7. Version 3.0.7 of Mozilla's open-source browser is nothing more than a stability and security update designed to resolve issues that survived past the availability of Firefox 3.0.6. Users have the option to either manually download the bits, or wait for the browser to notify them of the update's availability, and install the refresh automatically.

“We strongly recommend that all Firefox users upgrade to this latest release. If you already have Firefox 3.0.x, you will receive an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours. This update can also be applied manually by selecting “Check for Updates…” from the Help menu,” revealed Samuel Sidler, Quality Assurance engineer at Mozilla. “If you’re still using Firefox 2.0.0.x, this version is no longer supported and contains known security vulnerabilities. Please upgrade to Firefox 3 by downloading Firefox 3.0.7.”

Mozilla fixed no less than five security vulnerabilities with the availability of 3.0.7. Firefox 3.0.7 resolves “crashes with evidence of memory corruption; Mozilla Firefox XUL Linked Clones double free vulnerability, and upgrade PNG library to fix memory safety hazards” all problems labeled as Critical. The XML data theft via RDFXMLDataSource and cross-domain redirect vulnerability was rated as posing a High risk to users while the URL spoofing with invisible control characters issue was considered a Low threat.

In addition to introducing support for Estonian, Kannada, and Telugu languages, Firefox 3.0.7 also makes sure that “items in the "File" menu show as inactive after using the "Print" item from that menu - switching to a new tab restores them. For some users, cookies would appear to go “missing” after a few days. Mac users of the Flashblock add-on, experienced an issue where sound from the Flash plug-in would continue to play for a short time after closing a tab or window. Fixed several issues related to accessibility features,” Mozilla revealed.
