Supports HiDPI Retina displays on OS X 10.7 and newer

Months after Opera and Google Chrome updated their browsers to support the HiDPI screens on Apple’s new MacBook Pros, Mozilla has released its own Retina update for fans of the Firefox web browser on OS X.

Arguably the most popular web browser on any desktop platform, Firefox is strangely the last of the big boys to implement Retina display support for happy owners of a brand spanking new MacBook Pro.

There are currently two Retina-enabled Macs on the market, both of which are in the Pro family of notebooks sold by Apple. One is a 15-incher, the other boasts a smaller, 13-inch display. Both, however, output some insanely crisp graphics.

And for those owners who use Firefox as their primary window to the Internet, their visual experience is about to improve tenfold. The enhancement is only visible on OS X 10.7 Lion and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (Snow Leopard is out). Other goodies included in Firefox 18 are listed in the changelog.
