Firefox 16 has been patched against the security vulnerability that caused pulling it off the official download page a day after release. The new build, 16.0.1, is currently available for all supported platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux).

Mozilla’s recommendation for keeping users safe from possible malicious exploits of the flaw was to downgrade to version 15.0.1 of the browser, which also replaced the initial Firefox 16 download on the official page. Users are now automatically updated to the patched release.

The Android version of the browser was also affected by the vulnerability, but the development team managed to come up with a fix in a much shorter time, on October 10.

According to the Mozilla Security Blog, the security flaw responsible for all this “could allow a malicious site to potentially determine which websites users have visited and have access to the URL or URL parameters”.
