14 DAY TRIAL // Kindle Fire owners have a new reason to be excited today. Amazon has just announced that the Fire OS 3.1 free software update can be now be downloaded now. The OTA (over-the-air) update will be joining us automatically in the upcoming weeks.
Vice President of Amazon Kindle Peter Larsen made the official announcement saying that “the response to our new family of Kindle Fire tablets has been fantastic and we’re excited to add new features we think our customers will love.”
“This free, over-the-air Free OS update brings new features like Goodreads integration, Second Screen and Cloud Collections, enterprise support, wireless painting and more.”
There you have it. If you’re a book geek, you’ll surely be thrilled about the deep Goodreads integration, which will make it easier for you to stumble upon your next great read by seeing what friends have been reading or sharing.
More than that, you can now import books acquired through Amazon and add them to your Goodreads account. And from now on, you won’t have to exit the book you’re currently reading if you want to open the Goodreads app.
Another interesting feature that comes with the update is Cloud Collections, aimed at digital book readers, as well. Users will be able to organize their collection of books, magazine or newspapers, and thanks to the Whispersync technology all your collections will be made available for you on your Kindle, so you won't have to juggle with multiple devices.
Another interesting feature brought by the update is Second Screen, a function that allows you to stream video from the tablet onto a big screen. The tablet can in turn, still be used to provide playback controls or for reading emails without having to shut the movie/show off.
If you decide to update, you should also know you’ll be able to wirelessly print photos, PDFs, emails and documents.
