Russian antivirus maker Kaspersky has wrapped up the next generation of its security solutions. The final versions of both Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 are available for download. According to the Russian outfit, KIS 2009 and KAV 2009 are designed to integrate seamlessly with Windows XP x64 Professional SP2, 32-bit Windows XP SP2 and SP3, as well as 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista, up to Service Pack 1. Users of previous versions of the antivirus products will be able to upgrade to the 2009 editions from KIS 6.0 and 7.0 and KAV 6.0 and 7.0. According to the security company, Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus
2009 final are both Build 8.0.0.357.

"Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and [Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 are] new approach to data security. The main feature of the application[s] is restricting the programs' rights to access the system resources. [They] help prevent unwanted actions by suspicious and hazardous programs. The applications' capabilities in the protection of user's confidential data have been considerably enhanced. The applications now includes wizards and tools which substantially facilitate execution of specific computer protection tasks," reads an excerpt out of the description of KIS 2009.

KIS 2009 and KAV 2009 essentially bring to the table the same set of core features and capabilities. In this regard, both security solutions are designed to address a wide range of malicious code, via not only traditional virus signature-based detection, but also through Proactive Defense, which runs unknown applications in isolated virtual environments designed to permit the assessment of program behavior. KIS 2009 takes one step further and also provides a Host Intrusion Prevention System set up to cut off standard and default operating system applications such as browsers from the platform's critical areas - the registry.

On top of the core anti-malware scanning engine, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 delivers Security Analyzer and Browser Configuration wizards, a new infrastructure that gathers information and samples from the users' machines and sends them to Kaspersky, and System Restore capabilities. The Virtual keyboard will work to protect end users from keyloggers, with KAV 2009 also featuring anti-phishing security.

KIS 2009 builds on top of what KAV 2009 has to offer, with an Application Filtering component, the Network Monitoring and Network Packet Analysis tools, Activity Filtering, Privacy Cleaner Wizard, Parental Controls, anti-spam and anti-phishing technologies integrated with the main desktop email clients including Outlook, Thunderbird and the Bat, Wi-Fi protection capabilities and instant messaging scanning.

Both products come with a redesigned graphical user interface. "The new program's interface reflects the comprehensive approach to information protection. High information capacity of dialog boxes helps user quickly make decisions. The functionality of reports and statistics information about the application's operation has been extended. The possibility of using filters allowing flexible setup when working with reports makes this product irreplaceable for professionals," Kaspersky informed.
