An updated flavor of the Facebook Messenger application is now available for download for the owners of Android-based devices out there, namely version 4.0.0.8.1.

The new app release comes with a nice range of enhancements packed inside, many of which were already made available for some users as part of the beta testing program and which also landed on iOS devices last week.

Among them, we can count the option to pin conversations to the homescreen, courtesy of a new functionality called Conversation Shortcuts, which should offer faster access to chats.

Moreover, the new app iteration comes with Groups, so that users can create groups with the people they message the most, so as to keep them in a single place, easily accessible.

Another appealing improvement in the new app flavor is the inclusion of forwarding options, which will enable people to easily send a photo or message they have received to other users.

Additionally, Facebook Messenger now enables users to easily make calls over Wi-Fi and data connections with their friends, for as long as they want.

With this new capability, Facebook is turning its messaging app into a powerful competitor against services such as Skype, LINE, BBM, and others.
