DivX Inc. has released an update to its high-quality video platform, DivX. DivX Player 7.1 has been updated to support unlimited playback of purchased DivX VOD content in DivX Player, as well as streamlined DivX VOD registration and device management. DivX for Mac 7.1 is now officially supported on Intel machines only, according to its makers.

In keeping with to the release notes, DivX 7.1 also includes DivX Codec 6.8.3, which, for its part, adds up to 50% faster decoding on multi-core computers for better HD Playback, and new, custom matrices that allow for a better fine-tuning of the encoder for the specific content type. DivX Converter 1.3.1 has been updated to work on Leopard (and to work in general). The tool assists Mac users in creating DivX files (turn nearly any video file into a DivX video), batch encode videos (convert multiple files to DivX in a single step), crop and resize videos, remove black borders and change encoding bitrates.

Developed by the company with the same name, DivX provides everything you need to enjoy high-quality, digital videos on your computer. DivX 7 includes support for high-definition H.264 (.mkv) videos with AAC audio and videos created using all previous versions of the DivX technology. DivX enables users to play their DivX files (.divx, .avi) on a myriad of DivX-certified devices.

“DivX is among the world's most popular digital media formats, powering a worldwide ecosystem of content, software and consumer electronics devices,” the company headquartered in San Diego says.

DivX, Inc. has recently announced a licensing agreement for the next-generation DivX Plus HD technology, by teaming up with Realtek Semiconductor, one of the world's leading network and computer peripheral integrated-circuit providers. Under the agreement, Realtek will incorporate the DivX Plus HD technology into the Realtek RTD1283/RTD1073 semiconductor chips, enabling devices to play-back DivX Plus HD video in the MKV container at up to 1080p (HD). DivX now requires an Intel CPU (1GHz or faster), Mac OS X 10.4 or later, and 512MB of RAM.
