About Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.5

This update extends RAW file compatibility for Aperture 2, iPhoto '08, and iPhoto '09 for the following cameras:

Nikon D3X

Epson R-D1x.

According to the company behind the Mac operating system, Digital RAW Compatibility Update 2.5 also addresses issues related to specific cameras and overall stability.

Aperture, Apple's professional photography software application, is designed to assist professional photographers in post-production work. The program is optimized for speed, using a powerful search engine and Quick Preview mode for rapid-fire photo browsing. Thanks to these two elements, even users working with large libraries will be able to get the best results. Using an expanded suite of adjustment tools including Recovery, Vibrancy, Vignette, and a soft-edged Retouch brush, all with the highest-quality RAW processing, professionals and casual users alike can enhance their photos with ease.

Weighing in at close to four megabytes, the latest Digital RAW Compatibility Update requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 (the latest version of Tiger), Mac OS X 10.5.3 or newer versions of Leopard. Supported languages include Deutsch, English, Français, Chinese and Simplified Chinese, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk and more.

As noted above, users can either download and install the update automatically by firing up Software Update from their Macs' Apple Menu, or use the link below to grab the standalone installer. Should they resort to the second method, users must:

1- double click the RAWCameraUpdate.dmg disk image to unpack the installer; 2- double click the RAWCameraUpdate.pkg installer package to begin installation; 3- follow the on-screen instructions by hitting continue and accepting the software license agreement; 4- click Install to start the process where files are being copied to the hard drive; 5- choose Restart to reboot the system so the update takes effect.
