Encryption is the most accessible solution when it comes to protecting your sensitive data. And in this context, both Windows Vista and Windows XP come with built-in data encryption capabilities. Additionally, Microsoft is also offering the Data Encryption Toolkit for Mobile PCs to go hand in hand with the company's encryption technologies. Data Encryption Toolkit for Mobile PCs was showcased at Microsoft's tech-Ed 2007 conference as a solution designed to guarantee data security via the Encrypting File System (EFS) and Microsoft BitLocker Drive
Encryption (BitLocker) for Vista and XP.

"One more thing we announced at TechEd last week was the release of the Data Encryption Toolkit for Mobile PCs. The Toolkit is the newest in a suite of Windows Vista Solution Accelerators, and provides tested guidance and powerful tools to help you protect your most vulnerable information - the data residing on your laptops. The toolkit shows you how to use two key encryption technologies: BitLocker Drive Encryption, which is included with specific versions of Windows Vista, and the Encrypting File System, which is included with Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista," explained Windows senior product manager Alex Heaton.

Microsoft has bundled four components into the Data Encryption Toolkit: the Executive Overview, the Security Analysis, the Planning and Implementation Guide and the Microsoft Encrypting File System Assistant. With the Data Encryption Toolkit, The Redmond Company offers not only documentations but also software tools and scripts set in place to enable Windows Vista and Windows XP users to leverage the EFS and BitLocker technologies.

Because it is considered an integer part of the Microsoft Solution Accelerators, the Data Encryption Toolkit is primarily addressed at corporate customers that need to safeguard sensitive data. Via the toolkit, IT professionals will be able to centralize the configuration, deployment, and management of encryption settings on multiple mobile computers.
