CodeWeavers is out with a new version of CrossOver Mac, the company’s Wine-based utility for running Windows software on a Mac without a virtual machine.

If you’re a regular user of CrossOver for Mac, it might help to know that the program’s “Mac Driver” is now on by default. In case you don’t know what this means, grab a chair.

“CrossOver now supports better desktop integration on OS X,” according to CodeWeavers.

In other words, you get pretty much the same experience as you would get with a virtual machine, only your Mac’s resources don’t get drained as much.

You can use Drag and Drop (thank you, Lord!), you get system tray icons in the menubar, shaped windows and transparency, better mouse handling for many games, support for command-tab switching in full-screen mode, and better integration with the OS X Dock, as well as Expose and Spaces.

It’s a dream come true for Mac users who are compelled to use Windows software on a regular basis! Other new features include better international keyboard support, improved clipboard support, compatibility with three-button mice, fixes for many window ordering problems, support for gamepads with force-feedback, and much more.
