Carmageddon, one of the most controversial video games ever released on PC, is now available on iOS as a universal application suitable for both iPhone and iPad play. It’s free to download only for today, so grab it now!

Launched as a free download for the first day as a token of Stainless Games’ appreciation to their Kickstarter backers, “Carmageddon is the original freeform driving sensation, where pedestrians (and cows!) equal points, and your opponents are a bunch of crazies in a twisted mix of automotive killing machines.”

Gamers get 28 deranged opponents, 11 enhanced (pre-lit) environments, a career mode featuring 36 levels, 27 achievements, selectable control schemes (as well as the ability to tailor the controls to your liking), iCloud support, Game Center integration and more.

Although free, the game does offer in-app purchases (which some consider to be nonsense) to unlock all the cars, but not the secret one, according to the developers.

All iDevices are natively supported under iOS 5.1 or later, so get downloading!
