Piriform has officially announced the Final release of CCleaner version 1.02.115 for Mac OS X. CCleaner is a highly-regarded optimization and cleaning tool that has been in beta phase on the Mac for almost a full year.

“CCleaner, the world's most popular optimization and cleaning tool with millions of users, is now available for your Apple computer,” says Piriform, the developer of the application.

“Protecting your privacy online, reclaiming your disk space and making your computer faster and more secure,” CCleaner has made a splash on the Windows platform. The next obvious step was the Mac. “Download from the App Store now for FREE and reclaim control of your Mac!”, says Piriform.

Requiring a Mac running OSX 10.5 (Leopard) or newer, CCleaner 1.02.113 adds French, Spanish and German translations, an improved Uninstall Tool, corrected installation dates, keyboard navigation (tree view), the ability to double-click cookies to move them between lists, fixed crash on start up on some Macs, and lots of minor bug fixes.

Piriform adds that CCleaner 1.02.115 also manages to correctly calculate the size of applications.

“CCleaner is the number-one tool for cleaning your Windows PC,” Piriform adds. “It protects your privacy online and makes your computer faster and more secure. Easy to use and a small, fast download.”

CCleaner is used by numerous large and small companies all over the world, including some government and military establishments.

For those asking how the name of the application is pronounced, it's CCleaner, with one "C" and then "Cleaner," pronounced "see cleaner."

Piriform clarifies in a FAQ that, “Historically the software was originally called ‘Crap Cleaner’, but this was shortened to CCleaner to prevent any offence and to allow corporations to use it.”

Some users have reported that certain types of malware can prevent CCleaner from running, which is why Piriform advises customers to make sure their antivirus software is up-to-date.
