Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion recently announced that it would soon make available a BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac users, and, starting with Friday, October 2, the new software solution is available for the owners of a BlackBerry smartphone that have a Mac computer at home. The solution is available for download or free and enables users to sync data between Mac applications and their BlackBerry devices.

According to the handset vendor, the new BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac has been designed to enable an easy synchronization of contacts, calendar appointments, tasks and notes between devices, and to fit the needs of Mac users. Those of you who own a BlackBerry and a Mac can now enjoy data transfer from apps like iCal, Address Book, Microsoft Entourage and others, in addition to enjoying other available actions, including application removal, automatic backups scheduling, encryption of backup files or the installation of software updates.

“BlackBerry Desktop Manager Software also integrates BlackBerry Media Sync, enabling Mac users to sync their iTunes music collections with their BlackBerry smartphone (Certain music files may not be supported, including files that contain digital rights management technologies). From within the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software, users simply select the desired iTunes playlists and the music, including song information and album art, is quickly transferred onto their BlackBerry smartphone,” the company also states.

It should be noted that the new BlackBerry Desktop Manager software only works on machines running under Mac OS 10.5.5 and higher (only 32-bit mode is supported on Mac OS X v10.6), and that the BlackBerry smartphones it supports need to run under the BlackBerry OS 4.2 or higher. iTunes v7.7.1 or later is another pre-requisite for the installation of the new synchronization solution for Mac computers and BlackBerry smartphones.
