Microsoft is diversifying the resources designed to help developers leverage its search/decision engine. The company has made available for download the Bing Application Programming Interface version 2 documentation as a .PDF file. According to the software giant, the move comes as a response to feedback from devs, who required that the offline documentation be expanded on top of the CHM offering. There are over 650 pages on the .PDF document delivering a deep insight into the workings of Bing API 2.
“Now, everything you ever wanted to know about the Bing Application Programming Interface (API), Version 2, is conveniently available in a single download. Get an overview, survey, and detailed information for each important area of the API: what the API does, and what it does that it did not do before. Survey information for protocols, SourceTypes, and properties. Detailed samples demonstrating all of the above, including code samples,”
George Thomas Jr., Bing Toolbox, revealed .
There are two downloads offered to developers, the
.PDF file (5.4 MB), or a
.ZIP package that is considerably smaller in size, weighing in at just 1.9 MB. The resource features a Getting Started section, set up especially for beginners, but at the same time contains comprehensive code samples designed to satisfy advanced developers. In addition, the documentation contains a number of links to additional online information and resources.
The Bing Application Programming Interface (API) version 2 allows third-parties to programmatically submit queries to Bing, and of course, also get the necessary results from Microsoft’s search engine. “If you are new to Bing, version 2 of the API enables developers to build applications that can: retrieve information from the Internet. Monetize an application with advertisements. Improve and enhance search requests and results. Find location-specific information. Translate terms and blocks of text,” Thomas stated.
